FAQ
Questions, plainly answered.
The questions people ask before they trust CoBuilder with real work, answered with specifics instead of hedging.
01 / How we compare
CoBuilder vs other AI tools
The short version: CoBuilder is built for professionals doing real, multi-step work. The conversation is the means, not the product.
How is CoBuilder different from ChatGPT or Claude?
Chat tools answer questions. CoBuilder builds the deliverable. You point it at your work, ask for a vendor follow-up or a draft proposal, and it produces the file using context from your own projects.
What about Copilot, Cursor, or other coding tools?
Those products showed how much better AI works when it has durable context and real files. CoBuilder brings that architecture to customer follow-ups, proposals, vendor work, and operational documents. It is not a coding tool.
Is CoBuilder just a wrapper around someone else's AI?
No. CoBuilder is the workspace. The model is one component, and it can change as the underlying technology improves. The value is in how the workspace gives the model durable context about your files, style, and prior decisions.
Why a desktop app instead of a browser tab?
Professional work already lives on your computer. The desktop app keeps a synced local mirror in ~/CoBuilder/{your-email}/ while the server-side repository remains the source of truth for history, diff, and revert.
Which AI model is CoBuilder built on?
CoBuilder uses frontier models from major providers and chooses the best fit for each task. The point is the workspace, not the brand behind a single request.
02 / Credits
Credits and usage
Credits keep compute costs visible without making you manage providers. The plan includes 30,000 credits each month.
What is a credit?
A credit is a unit of AI work. Short edits use fewer credits. Longer research, drafting, and multi-step work use more. Your dashboard shows the breakdown by task.
How many credits is a typical task?
A short follow-up email is usually small. A drafted proposal with research is larger. A long research brief or multi-document analysis can use much more. 30,000 credits per month is intended for steady professional use.
How do I know when I'm running low?
CoBuilder warns you at 80%, 95%, and 100%. At 100%, AI work pauses until you top up or your next billing cycle starts.
What happens if I run out mid-month?
AI features pause. The app can still open and read your local mirror. You can add 10,000 extra credits for $10, applied to the current month only, or wait for monthly renewal.
Do unused credits roll over?
No. Each month gets a fresh 30,000 credits. Top-up credits also apply to the current month only.
03 / Billing and trial
Billing and trial
One plan, one price, paid monthly. The trial has full access and no feature lockouts.
How does the 14-day trial work?
You get full access to the single CoBuilder plan. A card is required at sign-up through Stripe, but the first charge happens when the 14-day trial ends on day 15. Cancel before then and the card is not charged.
When is my card first charged?
On day 15 of the trial, for the first full month. Your dashboard and the trial T-3 email show the date before the first charge.
Why do I need a card on file for the trial?
Credits cost real money to provide. Asking for a card reduces abuse and lets you keep working when the trial converts.
Can I switch plans?
There is only one plan: $50 per month with 30,000 credits. Top-ups are available for unusually heavy months.
Will top-ups be charged automatically?
No. Top-ups are always a deliberate action from your dashboard. CoBuilder does not charge you for additional credits unless you ask.
Is there annual billing?
Not in v1. The public plan is monthly at $50.
04 / Privacy and data
Privacy and data ownership
Your files live in two places: the server-side source of truth for history and a synced local mirror you can keep.
Where does my work live?
The source of truth is a per-organization Git repository on CoBuilder servers. That is what enables full version history, diff, and revert. The app keeps a synced local mirror at ~/CoBuilder/{your-email}/ on your machine.
Do you train AI on my data?
No. Anthropic's and OpenAI's commercial terms prohibit training on customer data. CoBuilder does not train models on your data either.
What does the AI provider see?
Only the context your specific task requires, sent for one request at a time. Providers may retain inputs and outputs for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring and safety review under standard commercial terms.
Can I export my data?
Yes. From your account page you can request an archive of profile data, settings, invoices, and memory CoBuilder has built about your work.
Is data encrypted?
In transit, CoBuilder uses TLS 1.2 minimum and TLS 1.3 when both ends support it. At rest, file bytes in Google Cloud Storage and metadata in Neon Postgres are encrypted with provider-managed AES-256 encryption.
05 / Platform and install
Platform, install, and uninstall
Mac and Windows are the planned v1 platforms. The download page carries the current alpha status.
Which platforms do you support?
macOS on Apple Silicon, M1 or newer, and Windows 10 or 11 on x64 PCs. Linux and Intel Mac builds are not part of v1.
What are the system requirements?
8 GB RAM minimum, 16 GB recommended, 500 MB free for the app, and broadband internet for sync and AI work.
How do I install CoBuilder?
The desktop installers are not public yet. When they are ready, cobuilder.me/download will carry the real macOS and Windows links.
How do I uninstall completely?
On Mac, drag the app to Trash. On Windows, use Settings, Apps. Your local mirror stays where it is. Delete your account separately if you also want the server-side copy removed.
Is there a mobile app?
Not today. CoBuilder is desktop-first because professional work happens on a desktop. The mobile path is an email link back to your desktop machine.
06 / Account and sign-in
Account and sign-in
One account, one email, one password. Google sign-in and teams are not part of v1.
How do I sign in?
Email and password, the same pair you used at sign-up. The desktop app remembers you between sessions.
I forgot my password.
Use the reset link on the sign-in page. CoBuilder emails a one-time link that is valid for an hour. Setting a new password signs you out of other devices.
Can I change my email?
Yes. Change it from your account page. CoBuilder sends a confirmation to the new address and a heads-up to the old one.
Can I sign in on multiple computers?
Yes. One account can be used on your own machines. CoBuilder is currently single-user, so account sharing is not supported.
Do you support SSO?
Not today. SSO will arrive alongside team accounts, which are not part of the v1 plan.
07 / Cancellation and deletion
Cancellation, refunds, and deletion
Cancellation stops billing. Account deletion is a separate deliberate flow.
How do I cancel?
Go to Account, Billing, Cancel subscription. You keep access through the end of the current billing period.
Will I be charged after I cancel?
No. Cancellation stops the next charge. You keep the access you already paid for through the end of the period.
Can I get a refund?
If you cancel within 7 days of your first paid charge and tell us why, CoBuilder refunds that charge. After that, you keep access through period-end.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Cancellation pauses billing only. Your account remains available for reactivation. To remove stored account data, delete your account explicitly.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Account, Danger zone, Delete account. You must cancel any active subscription first, confirm your email, and re-enter your password. After that, deletion is scheduled with a 30-day reversal window.
Ready to try the desktop workspace?
14 days free. 30,000 credits to start. Cancel anytime.
